The Bennett Foundation is committed to supporting the education and professional development of nursing students through the annual Julia C. Bennett Scholarship Award.

Our annual scholarship awards students who embody the core values of hard work, integrity, and dedication to the nursing profession with direct financial aid to their school tuition.

Eligibility Requirements

The Julia Cuttino Bennett Scholarship award is open only to students pursuing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Joseph’s University, New York – Brooklyn Campus. Applicants must:

  • Be a currently enrolled nursing student at SJNY - Brooklyn Campus (rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors eligible).

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and remain in good academic standing.

  • Reside in New York City or the surrounding tri-state area.

  • Submit a completed application, including all required materials.

Selection Criteria

Eligible applicants will be evaluated holistically based on the following:

  • Personal Statement: Applicants must submit a thoughtful and authentic personal statement that clearly reflects their individual journey, motivations, and commitment to nursing. Submissions should be sincere, specific, and tailored to this scholarship.

  • Demonstrated Financial or Personal Need: Students who demonstrate meaningful financial or personal circumstances that make scholarship support especially impactful (e.g., first-generation students, caregivers, adult learners, working students, etc.).

  • Vision for Nursing Career: Applicants should articulate a clear and compelling vision for their future in nursing, demonstrating long-term commitment, intentionality, and purpose within the profession.

  • Character & Values: Candidates should reflect strong moral character, integrity, compassion, and service-oriented leadership consistent with the spirit of Julia C. Bennett’s legacy.

  • Faith: Demonstrates a grounded moral compass and service-driven values, including faith-based principles where applicable, in alignment with the spirit of Julia’s legacy.

Applications for the 2026 scholarship awards are due no later than Friday, April 17.
